Microcontrollers are the heart of almost every DIY hardware project. In this guide we cover how to choose your first development board, set up your toolchain, and get a blinking LED running in minutes.
Choosing a board
For most beginners, a well-supported board with a big community is the best start. Look for good documentation, plenty of GPIO, and built-in WiFi if you want to build IoT projects.
Your first program
The classic "blink" sketch toggles an LED on and off — the hardware equivalent of "Hello, World". Once that works, you know your board, cable, and toolchain are all good.
